AOD inspired youth action for peace and cohesion at ASEAN Youth and the Future

On May 25, 2025, Architects of Diversity, in collaboration with UNICEF Malaysia, facilitated a session titled “ASEAN Youth and the Future” at the 4th ASEAN Youth Dialogue, hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The session brought together youth delegates from across the region to explore how young people can play a critical role in shaping a peaceful and cohesive ASEAN. With a focus on systems thinking, participants learned to unpack complex issues such as conflict, inequality, and social division - and map out holistic, long-term solutions grounded in youth action.

Using real-world case studies of conflict and violence from across Southeast Asia, the session challenged delegates to analyse root causes, reflect on community dynamics, and reimagine pathways toward coexistence and inclusive development. More than just a technical exercise, it was a space for young leaders to connect their lived experiences to regional policy and action.

At the heart of the session was a clear message: young people are not just future leaders—they are current changemakers. Their perspectives are essential in bridging divides, fostering mutual understanding, and co-creating a shared vision for ASEAN that reflects the region’s diversity and dynamism.

Closing the session, Dato’ Ts. Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, commended the youth delegates for their active participation and thoughtful contributions to regional dialogue. He noted the importance of investing in platforms where young people can lead conversations on peace, prosperity, and progress across Southeast Asia.

As AOD continues its work to empower youth and strengthen intercultural understanding, this session was a powerful reminder that young voices, when meaningfully included, can shift narratives and move entire systems toward equity and harmony.
