AOD engages youth democracy activists across Malaysia

From October 2 to November 13, 2024, Architects of Diversity in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute conducted a series of in-person and virtual roundtables with youth organisations across Malaysia involved in advocacy, political education and democratic processes. Representatives from 30 youth organisations participated in either a West Malaysian, Sabah or Sarawak regional forum.

The fora centred around identifying issues surrounding Malaysian democratic processes, assess the state of youth organisations' abilities to utilise skills during previous activities and identify new opportunities to create vertical engagements as a collective. Participants discussed the efficacy of grassroots initiatives, the state of democracy at the youth-level, and shared feedback on how to improve civil society organisations. Additionally, the fora served as a platform for youth organisations to shape the identity of youth activism, identify common pain points for amplification of issues at the federal level and build mutual understanding to facilitate future collaboration.
